When it comes to hats, the perfect fit makes all the difference. A well-fitting hat not only looks great but also feels comfortable and stays in place, whatever the occasion. We know that finding the right size can be tricky, so we’ve put together this simple guide to help you measure your head and choose the ideal hat.
Wearing a hat that fits properly ensures both comfort and style. A hat that’s too tight can cause discomfort, while one that’s too loose may slip or blow away in the wind. Getting the right size means you’ll look great whilst also being able to wear your hat all day long comfortably. If your hat doesn't stay on your head as it should, you just won't end up getting the wear out of it.
Gather your materials
All you need is a flexible measuring tape (such as a dressmaker’s tape) or a piece of string and a ruler.
Measure your head
Position the measuring tape around your head where your hat will sit. This is typically about 1cm above your ears and across the middle of your forehead. Ensure the tape is level and sits snugly, but not too tight. You want a comfortable fit. If you’re using a string, mark the point where it meets and measure it against a ruler.
Find your size
Once you have your head circumference in centimetres or inches, compare it to the Hicks & Brown sizing guide:
Extra Small (53-54cm) Small (55-56cm) Medium (57-58cm) Large (59-60cm) Extra Large (61-62cm)
If you find yourself between sizes, we recommend sizing up for a more comfortable fit. You can order a pack of our hat resizers which bring the fit in tighter.

If you find you are in between hat sizes we recommend putting a hat resizer in the inside of the headband, at the back of the hat, to provide a snugger fit.
